한국어 교원 자격증을 따고 나서, 한글을 어떻게 알릴 수 있을까 고민하게 되었어요.

 

언어는 세상과 함께 변화하고 진화하듯이, 한국어도 늘 배우고, 버리고, 다시 배우는 과정을 거치는 것 같아요.

 

그래서 저는 사전 속 표준어에만 머무르기보다, 사람들이 실제로 즐겨 쓰는 생활 속 표현에 더 눈길이 가더라고요.

오늘 이야기한 치맥(치킨+맥주)도 그런 단어 중 하나예요.

 

한국에서는 오래전부터 치킨과 맥주를 함께 즐기는 문화가 있었지만,

 

2013년 드라마 ‘별에서 온 그대’를 계기로 해외에도 소개되면서 ‘ChiMac’이라는 말이 한글 유행어의 상징처럼 자리 잡았다고 해요.

재미있는 건, 여기서 파생된 말들이 자연스럽게 생겨났다는 점이에요.

• 피맥(PiMac): 피자와 맥주의 조합, 특히 젊은 층과 대학가에서 자주 쓰여요.

• 삼맥(SamMac): 삼겹살과 맥주, 한국의 회식 문화와 맞닿아 있죠.

• 치소(ChiSo): 치킨과 소주, 치맥을 즐기지만 맥주 대신 소주를 선호하는 사람들 사이에서 쓰이곤 해요.

아주 작은 표현 속에서도 한글의 새로운 얼굴을 만나는 순간, 언어가 살아 있다는 걸 다시 느끼게 됩니다.

 

이런 단어들을 모아보면, 한국어가 얼마나 일상과 밀접하게 진화하는지 더 잘 보이는 것 같아요.

After earning my Korean language teaching license, I started to wonder how I could introduce Hangul in a friendlier way.

 

Just as the world keeps changing and evolving, Korean also seems to go through cycles of learning, unlearning, and relearning.

 

That’s why I became more interested in the expressions people actually use in daily life, rather than focusing only on dictionary-standard forms.

One such example is ChiMac (Chicken + Beer).

 

The pairing of chicken and beer has long been popular in Korea,

 

but the 2013 drama My Love from the Star helped bring the term “ChiMac” into wider recognition abroad, turning it into a symbol of playful Korean buzzwords.

What’s interesting is how new variations naturally grew from it:

• PiMac: Pizza + Beer, often heard among young people and on college campuses.

• SamMac: Pork belly + Beer, closely tied to Korea’s company dinner culture.

• ChiSo: Chicken + Soju, used by those who enjoy chicken but prefer soju over beer.

Even in such small expressions, I find new faces of Hangul and feel once again that language is truly alive.

 

Collecting words like these makes it clearer how closely Korean evolves alongside everyday life.
